What to Wear to a Studio Maternity Session 2025

Nothing! Just kidding…kinda! If you’ve seen my maternity work, you know that I love draping you in sheer cloth and coving all the important parts, but showing off that baby bump and creating dramatic and moody lighting! If this is something you want to do and try…which I hope you do…because wowza!! Here are some things you need to know to com properly prepared for your session:

Come Comfy:

If you plan on being photographed with the sheer drapery (we will start with this style), please come in oversized, comfy clothes. Skip the undies and bra and wear shoes that slip on with no socks, and be sure to not have any hair ties or anything on your wrists. Why I want you to do this, is so you skin is nice and smooth. We don’t want you to have any imprints on your skin that may show in your photos.

The Tighter the Better:

Now switching gears a little bit, after we’ve photographed you draped, I’ll have you change into the clothing you’ve brought that is form fitting to show off all of those beautiful curves. I often suggest clients wear a black body-con dress. This dress can be maxi style or mid-style, have ruffly sleeves or long sleeves, a collar, no collar, just as long as it fits snuggling around your curves.

Other Options:

Another maternity clothing option to consider that pairs well with a studio setting is a pair of normal jeans and a white top…could be a white t-shirt pulled up a little bit, or a loose button down with a few buttons unbuttoned. I think this looks great if you’re more of the casual type!
